Beware of the other!,

All is at a halt: No need to do anything as what we are staring at is a non certain life except that one never realises it. Living in a lockdown brings home this crude fact things are fragile. At every step there is danger. It is war against an invisible enemy as coined by The French President Emanuel Macron…..where every other is a potential enemy! Nowhere is safe except perhaps what may call home but then one is used to run away from that home which took years of work, planning to design then taking it for granted. We are made to be around it, appreciate what is there not only of the inanimate but also those around whom we share a bond with. A case of making up on the quality time which is missed in frantic normal times. Perhaps, one may learn from this current upheaval on how to be and what not a to do rather than carrying creating distortions about. A time to take care and keep safe from that invisible enemy. As if we have not sufficiently beware of of others, every other now is seen as a threat, an enemy not to get too close to.
Life is at stake as no one wishes to get contaminated.Or this is what emerges Beware: In some ways all others, every other is a threat to my being in a kind of newly found out being conscious way.No need to be close to one another but a question of being overtly aware of the threat as posed by that unseen enemy which may attack any moment. The world is at time of writing in a shocked mood. In a strange way after the first few weeks although there are disruptions to one’s normal way of being, we are in a state of non certainty. In someways we have always been so except that we do not know it. The Virus has made us more conscious.Nothing may ever be the same again. No need to try to imagine a world of how it used to be. The call is to awake to a realisation that one is frail.Keep the two metres rule or similar with any other and you are safe. You never know who is a carrier although not necessarily one who has been attacked. A kind of a mistrust as if we always trusted the other.
In many respects the idea of togetherness are thrown upside down. Everything is all over the place. A world in lockdown, being confined to one’s place. You may no longer venture as there is imminent danger about. At every step one never knows what awaits. Safety is indeed at home, home being the place where one always made a point of running away from. One is now in forced or voluntary confinement. Suddenly, one is made to take actions against the environment, pollution and or doing things that one would otherwise not do.
The downside to all this is that the naïve still maintain hope that all will be the same. A question of time. Yes, but not as one would want. One has to be patient as to reach that 60-70% agreed state of affairs where most have had some immunity contact with the enemy may be several months away. The downside to all this is that lots of devastation would have been caused with ever rising deaths… more often taking away the elderly and frail ones who has other health problems Meanwhile a question of keeping calm and being safe whilst taking care.Or one way of looking at all this is the world order being so disrupted is verily to say that we are in it for the long haul. It is not something that will go away sooner.Only the naïve may think that normality will return sooner and that life as it was will resume. Verily, resumption may take another turn. People will be cautious: Greetings will be of a different kind.Wearing of masks may be a trend in the future as would being cautious.
In adopting a more calm attitude, one may take things in one strides and be more relaxed amidst the frantic whilst the mundane attitude is to merely look at the bodily self whilst doing other non responsible things like reverting to sub human standard as to each according to one’s strengths and power of stocking things for oneself whilst being absolutely inconsiderate to others. The civic norm is thrown aside: Just see what is happening about and around the supermarkets across the world.
Current lifestyle as we knew it may take some rebuilding. To be sure, it needs to go as has been argued beyond that that framework of mere physical where things are seen from a parochial aspect. It is me against the other. That beware aspect from a transcendental perspective remains to see the other not as a threat but a living warmth as one one’s own in confinement, one is nothing. There would not be an outside to go to or a world in its pluralism but a mere awakening to just oneself and a ghetto type life where all there would be is plain singularity and what would be lost is precisely aspects that makes life colourful.
Who knows what type of world may one be awake to when all things will be said and done. The current taking for granted world and lifestyle may not be.What may come forth a post corona may be a more cautious and aware world never taking things for granted and importantly perhaps ready to pause and reflect and thereby readily keep questioning one’s lifestyles at all time.
For the vulgar and the brute, perhaps there is no need for any other mode except their way of life which is dare one adds which is about maintaining a way which suppresses every other. It is precisely that such a naïve and intolerant brutal way which may have caused events to unfold in a way which now if unchecked may signal even the end of the world order as one knows of it.
